Will Twitter let users pay for verified accounts?

Will Twitter let users pay for verified accountsWould you pay for that little blue checkmark next to your Twitter handle?

According to tech investor Jason Calacanis, users may soon get the opportunity to do that. On Friday, Calacanis appeared on CNBC’s Halftime Report and claimed the social network is set to introduce verification for all — for a price.

“For $1 a year or something like that,” Calacanis said, users will soon be able pay for a blue checkmark to appear on their accounts. Twitter already offers verified accounts, but reserves the distinction for select users — generally people in the public eye who might have prank accounts in their name. …...Read more

Sports Illustrateds swimsuit issue to feature a plus sized modelA plus-sized swimsuit model has cracked the pages of Sports Illustrated‘s swimsuit issue — but not in the magazine’s photo spreads.

Graham, who has appeared in ads for Levi’s, Lane Bryant and Bloomingdale’s, among others, is shown walking by a pool as a young man appears about to fall in, as though stunned by her appearance. The ad pushes the hashtag #CurvesinBikinis……More

Why Leaders Lack Emotional Intelligence

Why Leaders Lack Emotional IntelligenceOver the past century, the heartless, no-nonsense CEO has become something of an icon—and a cliché—in American society. Hollywood would have us believe that the Machiavellian chief exec is still alive and well. Whether it’s the Donald from The Apprentice or Jack Donaghy from 30 Rock, these eat-the-weak-for-breakfast-types seem to be as powerful as ever.

But that’s just TV, right? How about in the real world? Do businesses still allow these inhumane relics to survive?….More

Great Plumbing Tips You Can Do On Your Own

localplumbersdublinGood plumbing maintenance is relatively easy, but failing to keep up with it can mean costly repairs. Here are some good ways you can take care of your plumbing, either yourself or with the help of a licensed professional. Take care of your house now and it will benefit you in the future.

To help you repair a leaky water line, you should hire a local plumber in your area. A leaky water line can be a problem because it could lead to a flood. The best way to fix this problem is to hire a licensed plumber who is trained to repair the leak.

Periodically check your pipes for leaks and cracks. These can be forgotten, since pipes are usually hidden away, but checking for leaks and cracks can help you identify a small problem before a big problem occurs. You may have to enlist the help of a family member to turn on and off the water stream as you are checking.

If something is wrong with the disposal in your sink, avoid the temptation to stick your hand in there to fix it. Even if it is are switched off, a garbage disposal can be very dangerous. You can look online to find the diagram for the disposal that you have.

Make sure you get a good recommendation or check the references before you hire a plumber. With good recommendations, it will assure that you are hiring an experienced plumber. If the experienced plumber is professional, he will have a fully stocked truck and be able to complete most small jobs in one visit.

As mentioned above, most periodic plumbing maintenance is simple and straightforward. Most repairs resulting from serious damage to your plumbing are not. Now that you know how to deal with the plubming issues in your home, you should be more prepared to prevent or mitigate the more serious problems that can result.

Why Social Media Is Better Than a Personal Letter

Why Social Media Is Better Than a Personal LetterI spent the holidays with highly accomplished professionals including three physicians, one attorney, and an entrepreneur. All but one took me aside to ask whether they should start using social media for career purposes, which is something none of them have done before. In each case, they were wrestling with two questions:

Why should I interact publicly with clients/patients instead of privately?

The answer to this one is easy: most of the best opportunities come from weak social connections, rather than strong ones. By interacting with your contacts online, you create opportunities for weak connections to notice your interests and skills…..more

What is a Startup CEO’s real job?

What is a Startup CEO’s real job[This post is a bit long so I narrated it on the Umano platform – you can listen to it on the app here: https://umano.me/c/OLr26]

Startups are unique animals: “a startup is an organization formed to search for a repeatable and scalable business model.” This means that at its birth, a startup is in a unique position – having zero constraints. There is no product, market, revenue, employees, HR, legal issues etc. A good friend of mine who just launched his Nth start-up after finishing his vesting at a large company described it best – “I am having the time of my life. I only deal with signal: zero noise, product or people all day.” In many ways the startup journey is a downhill spiral of the CEOs quality of life by adding constraints – users, customers, investors etc. Of course, we know we need them to succeed….more

Why I Fired a Top-Performing Employee

Why I Fired a Top-Performing EmployeeAs an entrepreneur, you’d do anything for your company. You put in countless hours to build the business, and you’re relentlessly committed to your mission.

Unfortunately, not all of your employees are going to feel the same way. It’s inevitable that once you really start to grow, you may inadvertently invite a toxic employee into your midst.

Left unchecked, a toxic employee’s bad attitude will fester and spread to other parts of your company. I learned this lesson early in my entrepreneurial career. Shortly after I started Gravity, one of our top-performing employees began playing political games and forming alliances within the company…..More
