DREAM REALM AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED
DALLAS, Tx...Winners of the first annual Dream Realm Awards for excellence
in e-publishing were annouced Saturday, November 25, during UnCommon Con,
held at the Dallas/Fort Worth Hyatt-Regency Hotel. The awards were
sponsored by CrossroadsPub.com and The Fiction Works.The Dream Realm Awards are the first designed to recognize excellence in
speculative fiction which is exclusively electronically published.
According to Steve Lazarowitz, director of writer development for
CrossroadsPub.com, "There are several dedicated awards honoring great print
speculative fiction including the Hugos, The John Campbell Award, the
Nebulas and The World Fantasy Award. E-publishing is the new kid on the
block and frankly, not taken very seriously by the print publishing
community. Yet some of the e-books I've read are as good as anything I've
read in print. They deserve recognition."There were seven categories: horror, science fiction, fantasy,
experimental, anthology, children's book and cover art. A panel of writers
and fans judged each category. From three to five finalists were chosen in
each category, with one winner named in each after a second judging. 17
different e-publishers had works nominated by the writers or artists.The winners are:

In addition, two special awards were announced. The Jamie Engle
E-publishing Award was given to Bonnee Pierson of Dreams Unlimited for her
service to the E-publishing community. And the Steve Lazarowitz Ezine Award
was awarded to Jackhammer Ezine, Raechel Henderson Moon, Editor.
The presentation ceremonies were held Saturday afternoon during UnCommon
Con. Presenters included Steve Lazarowitz, Lisa DuMond (Hardshell Word
Factory, SF SITE), Kate Saundby (e-author), Robert Marcom (Chairman of
Electronic Authors Guild International, children's e-book author), Jamie
Engle (ebookconnections.com), Sharon L Reddy (CEO of CrossroadPub.com),
Kammy Bonias (e-author), TW Miller (e-author) and Lee Martindale (print
author). Winners received trophies; all finalists received framed award
certificates designed by the artists of Ardeon (http://www.ardeon.org).
"We were extremely pleased to be asked to host this event," said James
Echols with UnCommon Con. "E-books are growing in importance and
recognition almost daily. We and convention attendees look forward to
making the Dream Realm Awards a significant event for readers and writers of
speculative fiction for years to come."
