Beware of Online Scams is an article by John Scott Lewinski. The opening sentence is: Scams and come-ons remain a Hollywood tradition. Need we say more?
The Horror Screenwriters' Page is the page for you if you are interested in writing horror scripts. Plenty of links are provided on writing scripts and the horror genre.
The Screenwriter Network helps writers for the screen find online groups for peer evaluation, instruction and encouragement.
The Online Communicator is a site filled with very useful links and information, including reviews of screenwriters software.
The Internet Fantasy Writers Association is an open organization of those interested in the fantasy genre. Its purpose is to support one another and share information on markets, writing resources, character development and workshops.
Cybrpunk is a detailed guide to cyberpunk including a description, tips on writing, settings, technology and links.
The New England Science Fiction Association (NESFA)  has posted the guidelines for their 1998 amateur short story contest.
Malice Domestic is an open organization that hosts an annual mystery convention, and with St. Martin's Press, a first novels contest.
The Saint Club is an open organization promoting the works of Leslie Charteris. The Saintly Bible is its homepage.
The Dorothy L Sayers Society is an open organization promoting the works of  D.L. Sayers.

Preditors and Editors is a guide to publishers and agents.   It is one of the most comprehensive sources on the web for any writer.  Hosted by the SFWA.. 

Professional Organizations (open):

The Nation Writers Union is a trade union for freelance writers of all genres publishing in the US markets. The union is opened to all qualified or published writers, and anyone with unpublished work who is actively seeking to publish. Great support unit.
The Romance Writers of America is an open organization dedicated to what it says.
Futuristic, Fantasy & Paranormal (FFP) is a sub-genre association created by the Romance Writers of America (RWA). It seeks to help its writers bring the elements of science fiction, fantasy and paranormal to their romance scripts. Must be a member of the RWA.
The Crime Writers Association of Australia is an open organization promoting Australian Crime Fiction. For more information, contact:

Sisters in Crime is an open organization promoting female authors in the mystery field.

The Horror Writers Association is an open organization with two types of membership: Active (writer) and Affiliate (reader). This group was formed to bring writers and others together and foster a greater appreciation of dark fiction.

Professional Organizations (closed):

The following is a list of trade unions for screenwriters. The organizations are closed. To be eligible to join you need to be employed to write literary material for, or sell literary material to, a company that is a signatory of to a Guild Agreement.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA); The Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE); The International Affliation of Writers Guilds (IAWG), members include Australia, Canada, Great Britain, New Zealand, Quebec, WGA, and WGAE.
