Man drowns after reported assault attempt in Ocean Shores
OCEAN SHORES - A man in his 20s who was fleeing from police apparently has drowned.
Deputy Police Chief Russell Fitts says the man went to the home of a former girlfriend about 3 a.m. this morning.
The man reportedly tried to hit the woman’s current boyfriend with a piece of pipe, and police were called.
Fitts says the officers chased the man across several yards. He then tried to swim across the north end of Duck Lake but started calling for help.
Police say he sank beneath the surface about halfway across the lake.
Fitts says the Surf Rescue team was unable to find the man, and the Coast Guard and Grays Harbor County sheriff’s office were joining the search.
