Women’s College Basketball | Courtney Paris’ double-double streak ends at 64

CANCUN, Mexico - Oklahoma will always have Paris, although it won’t necessarily be Courtney.

Ashley Paris, twin sister of Sooners standout Courtney Paris, scored 24 points on 10-for-12 shooting and No. 10 Oklahoma beat Mississippi State 88-73 Friday in the Caribbean Challenge.

Courtney Paris finished with 16 points and eight rebounds, her double-double streak ending at 64 games.

“That will be a record that will stand and stand and stand,” Oklahoma coach Sherri Coale said.

Nyeshia Stevenson scored 17 points for the Sooners (2-2).

Imesia Jackson led Mississippi State (4-2) with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Gonzaga rises to 4-0

SPOKANE - Sophomore Heather Bowman of Spokane scored 17 points and added eight rebounds to lead Gonzaga to a 77-64 victory over Marquette of the Big East Conference.

Freshman Janelle Bekkering scored 15 points for Gonzaga (4-0). Another freshman, Courtney Vandersloot of Kentwood High School, added 10 points and four assists.

Svetlana Kovalenko led Marquette (2-2) with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Tina Charles had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the Huskies (4-0) over the Monarchs (3-1) at the Paradise Jam in Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Marissa Coleman scored 30 points as the Terrapins (7-0) edged the Gauchos (2-3).

Kristi Toliver scored 19 points for Maryland, which played without All-American forward Crystal Langhorne, who has a sprained ankle.

Prairie View A&M 44

Tasha Humphrey scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help the Bulldogs (5-0) overpower the Panthers (1-5) in the opening round of the Junkanoo Jam in Freeport, Bahamas.

No. 9 Duke 64, Temple 53

Carrem Gay had 13 points to lead the Blue Devils (5-0) over the Owls (1-3) at the Paradise Jam.
