UW Women’s Basketball | Extended road swing awaits Huskies

Washington opens the women’s basketball season on the road today. The Huskies should get used to being away from home because that’s where their first five games will be played.

The Huskies will play at Gonzaga on Monday, then travel to Hawaii for the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic on Nov. 16-18.

The game today at Kansas State will be the first official one for the Huskies under new coach Tia Jackson. The Huskies split two exhibition games.

Big 12 coaches picked Kansas State to finish eighth in their preseason poll. Last season, the Wildcats finished tied for last (4-12) in the conference but finished 19-15 overall.

They lost nine of their last 10 regular-season games, lost the opener in Big 12 tournament, then won three games in the Women’s NIT before losing a semifinal game to Wyoming in triple overtime.

Three of Wildcats’ top four scorers are back, including guard Kimberly Dietz, who averaged 13.3 points.

In recent exhibition games against Division II teams, Kansas State beat No. 6 Washburn 76-39 while the Huskies lost to unranked Seattle Pacific 75-67.
